Having been through the running of some losses in the whole year, the merchants figured out the way to make profits the day after Thanksgiving, in order to attract the consumers who would like to shop great numbers of commodities in large discounts. At that time, the retails companies in America recognized the red point as the loss, and the black point as the profit. The activities had made profits effectively, and companies got lots of black points, as the day was Friday, then it was called “Black Friday”.

In 1961, “Black Friday” was popular in Philadelphia. The merchants grasp the opportunity to attract the group of consumers. As time goes by, a fixed promotion period was formed in the business circle in exchange for the largest sales of goods, and it was widely used nationwide in 1985.

The action of people on Black Friday

The shop owners will have the shop’s door open in at five or six in the morning of that day, or even at 18 in the evening on Thursday. Merchants will take some measures to appeal customers by publishing advertisements in the newspapers, issuing coupons and  sharply reducing the prices of the goods a few days before Thanksgiving.
