What is Christmas

winter is coming!! which means the largest international festival - Christmas will also coming soon.It’s a special festival for people to spend time with their families and friends. BUT do you know how the holiday came into being? Let’s unpack what we do know.

The history of Christmas

Christmas, the word refers to “Christ’s mass” , comes from old English and means “celebrate Christ”. Christmas is the most important festival for Christians to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ who Christians believe is the son of God.

There is lots of myths and facts about this festival.

One of the famous stories is Jesus’s birth. According to the Bible, the Virgin Maria was engaged to the carpenter Joseph. But before they moved together, Joseph found that Maria was pregnant.

Joseph was a decent person, he wanted to break up with her because he didn’t want to make her ashamed by talking about it.

When he was thinking about this, the messenger of God appeared and told him not to hesitate to marry Maria, the baby she was carrying came from the Holy Spirit, and named the child Jesus so that he would save people from sin.

Joseph followed the messages from God and let Maria gave birth to the God of son - Jesus. Jesus was born on the night of December 24, is traditionally called “Christmas Eve”.

The customs of Christmas

 So, how do people celebrate Christmas and which activities must be hold on such a grand day?

Lighting on the street

Lighting up the lights is generally the first ceremony that begins at Christmas. Every year in mid-November, lights with unique Christmas designs will be hanged on the streets.

Having a buffet or meal with family and friends

People will gather together and have a scrumptious meal and buffet.  

Exchanging Christmas gifts

Christmas gifts are not only available to children but adult. In reality, the relatives and friends will send presents to each other.

Having mistletoe kiss

 Mistletoe is a traditional adornment of Christmas. If anyone stands under the mistletoe, they must kiss each other whether you know them or not. If lovers kiss under it, which means that they will go to marriage and grow old together.

Having the parties with Christmas music and movie

I believe no one will say “NO” to the Christmas parties. For the parties, the music and movies can not be absent!

Christmas carols are hymns sung by Christians to God, accompanied by beautiful music, sung by the church choir and sounded by the organ.

Every Christmas, a variety of Christmas Markets are set up all over the world.

A real tree must be used for Christmas tree in tradition. Christmas trees are made of pine trees generally. Families will decorate the Christmas trees together.
